THE COMPANY

Rumo is the largest railroad operator in Brazil and offers logistics services for rail transportation, port lifting and warehousing. The company operates 12 transshipment terminals, six port terminals and manages around 14,000 kilometers of railroads in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Tocantins. The asset base is formed by 1,200 locomotives and 33,000 wagons.

THE CHALLENGE

The railway lines that cut through Brazilian territory pass through remote regions with diverse characteristics that often make communication difficult. The Northern Network, for example, which crosses the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo, has a large active team, such as train drivers, track maintenance operators, yard workers and Operations Center operators.

Currently, the technology used by Rumo in the Santos mountain range is basically composed of digital NXDN IDAS and analog radios. This system is the best solution for the mountains due to the characteristics of the region. The challenge presented to Remotatec was to integrate the current communication protocols with the new satellite radio technology that uses SIP protocol. For Globalsat, the objective was to develop voice communication along the stretch of the North Network taking into consideration the geographical obstacles and the long distances, without investing in a large infrastructure, such as the installation of towers, for example.

THE SOLUTION

The proposed solution was to use Cobham Inmarsat satellite communication radios, supplied by Globalsat. These radios operate through geostationary satellites that cover most of the globe, ideal for remote regions. And to integrate this technology with all the others already used by Rumo, Remotatec implemented in its dispatch console system - TXRoIP - the integration of satellite communication.

After being implemented, homologated, and tested in controlled environments, Remotatec's technical team installed five new dispatch positions capable of communicating with all the groups of Cobham radios.

THE BENEFITS

Because they are radios with satellite communication, the new configuration has made it possible to enjoy the advantages of a traditional radio without needing expensive structures and a coverage area restricted to towers.

In addition, the integration of satellite communication with the other technologies was carried out by the console system already used by Rumo: Remotatec's TXRoIP. Thus, the additional cost of acquisition, installation, and training of a new communication tool alien to the current ecosystem was avoided. Now, it is possible to integrate the Cobham radios with all the other protocols in Remotatec's console system, which enables the CCO to perform push-to-talk communication and record the communications performed.

The Institution

The Military Police of Paraná (PMPR) is a reference in public security and social defense in Brazil. The excellence of the institution owes much to the use of technology that assists in its missions, such as the preservation of public order and ostensible policing.

The Challenge

The Military Police of Paraná had communication limitations with the metropolitan region of Curitiba. The COPOM, located in the capital city, was limited to answering radio communication calls only via RF through its tower located in the Operations Center. This limitation was evident in cities such as Tijucas do Sul, Adrianópolis, Cerro Azul and Paranaguá, which did not communicate with COPOM and were unable to receive operational support.

The Solution

To solve the communication problem, Remotatec implemented a subsystem of IP dispatch consoles, integrating the radio communication of the entire metropolitan region of Curitiba. The new system is composed of 35 Pharos dispatch consoles, redundancy servers, recording systems, and integration with third party GPS and AVL. Interoperability gateways were installed allowing the Military Police of Paraná to perform communication, identification and georeferencing of each radio device.

To receive all this technology, a new infrastructure was created in partnership with the company DRJ Radiocomunicação. An uninterruptible power supply, also known as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), was installed in order to provide energy and allow the continuity of services.

New Copom integrates the entire Curitiba metropolitan region

The Benefits

Today, with the new system installed, the Military Police can communicate with the entire metropolitan region of Curitiba, giving agility to the service and enabling the execution of coordinated operations. Besides the integration of communication, the Remotatec technology allowed the geographical identification of the radios, helping in the planning and decision making in a fast and intelligent way.

Another major benefit is the backing of recordings of all communications, providing reliability for the citizen and the public security agent.

THE COMPANY

Celesc Distribuição, set up in 2006, is the subsidiary of the state-owned company Celesc responsible for supplying electricity to 2.8 million consumer units. It is one of the largest energy distributors in the country, recognized for the high quality of its services. The company's concession area encompasses the entire territory of the state of Santa Catarina and the municipality of Rio Negro, in the state of Paraná, where a highly qualified and diversified consumer market is located.

THE CHALLENGE

The system is divided into 16 micro-regions that operated in isolation and independently without the possibility of being interconnected or controlled remotely. Besides this, there was a deficiency in radio coverage and also the need for the Distribution Operations Center. COSD, in the Capital to take over the radio dispatching from the Regional Control Centers at certain times when these were without local operators.

THE SOLUTION

O cliente já possuía uma pequena rede de comunicação VHF digital da Motorola Solutions. Após serem estudados diversos fornecedores no mercado, a Motorola Solutions foi a que melhor atendeu aos requisitos técnicos no que se refere às necessidades operacionais do sistema VHF da Celesc. Foi contratada a empresa DRJ Radiocomunicação, Revenda Platinum Motorola Solutions, que fez um levantamento das falhas do sistema e realizou mudanças e adequações no sistema de rádio. Ampliou a cobertura quando necessário e interligou as repetidoras com IP Site Connect dentro de cada uma das 16 microrregiões, através de link de dados, de maneira a atender perfeitamente às necessidades da operação. O despacho de rádio remoto do Centro de Supervisão na Capital opera com as consoles TXRoIP e o servidor TXRoIP System via IP com os gateways que estão conectados a uma estação base MOTOTRBO™ em cada uma das 16 cidades base que possui Centro de Controle. Toda essa interconectividade foi realizada em 120 dias. Foi utilizado rádio móvel para acesso à rede de rádio, com o console de despacho TXRoIP, possibilitando a gama completa de funções de voz e dados. Habilitou também o monitoramento em tempo real, gravação de gráficos de todo o sistema de rádio, gerenciado pelo software Radar que permite gerar relatórios e exportar áudios. A DRJ ocupou-se dos projetos de cobertura do sistema irradiante de cada site, enquanto a Remota Tecnologia instalou os gateways e consoles.

THE BENEFITS

The field maintenance teams, control center operators and third parties are the main users of the solution that brought numerous benefits. Gains in agility and productivity were obtained in the dispatching of field teams, contributing to the reduction of response time to occurrences. On the other hand, the centralization of the Operation Centers brought a reduction in staff costs and enabled greater control of the dispatching procedures and intelligence in directing the teams in the field, avoiding unnecessary displacements. It also increased the quality and safety of service orders, with better communication and greater clarity and reliability in voice dispatch messages for field teams. Currently, the company is operating and monitoring all 16 micro-regions in the state and takes control of radio dispatching via IP from any Control Center that needs stability, optimizing its resources and collaborators.

Rumo Logística deploys new TXROIP dispatch console system from Remotatec

 

THE COMPANY

Rumo Logística, the largest rail transportation company in Brazil, comprising 12,000 km of railroads, 1,000 locomotives, 27,000 wagons and 13,300 employees, has made an investment to modernize its radio communication management and dispatch system. Communication, previously analog, is now digital between repeater sites and the data server, over the TCP/IP network, resulting in a considerable improvement and security of communications and data passing over the network. In addition, communications and server logs can be audited through a simple and efficient search filter.

THE CHALLENGE

The old system included a totally analog radio network with old and obsolete interfaces, which made maintenance and operation of the system itself difficult. The change to a new IP solution, technically more advanced, was a matter of guaranteeing the control, management, and integration of the railroad to avoid accidents and losses in the operation. Another necessity was to integrate the information to the client's Oracle database and produce reports dedicated to the operation mode with exclusive filters for audits.

THE SOLUTION

The system was implemented at the client with TXRoIP Remotatec IP Dispatch Consoles, integrating the railroad sites. The customer's system is divided into two different grids: southern grid and northern grid; independent systems, but controlled by the CCO (Operational Control Center) located in Curitiba-PR. The southern loop project was conceived in two stages, with the first phase using gateways to connect the stations to the controller servers at the CCO. In the second phase the repeaters will be connected via IP directly to the controller servers. The northern loop in its original design already contemplates direct connection between the repeaters at their sites and the controller servers. Another key point of the solution was the integration of the derailment alarm system. In the first implementation phase, the derailment alarm is decoded by means of the MDC1200 protocol in analog mode or emergency protocol in digital mode, to be displayed on the console so that the operator can take some action, this record is saved on the HUB server to be audited in the future by the system managers. Along the southern loop 125 derailment alarms were installed, identified by ID, alias, coordinates, distance, km and location, being possible for the dispatcher at the CCO to view the map in the TXRoIP Dispatch Console. The features available in the TXRoIP Dispatch Console for the NXDN digital radio system are: group call, individual call, emergency call, stun / revive, text message and radio check. Besides the system installed in the CCO, a DR - Disaster Recovery was built, consisting of a set of consoles and servers as a redundant structure to maintain the system's operation. The reports dedicated to the client's operational model were customized in the management software, including data availability and event records in the Oracle database, to quickly identify any occurrence and execute actions quickly and effectively.

THE BENEFITS

Traffic controllers, dispatchers, mechanics and maintenance teams are the main agents of any operation and count on the security and reliability that their communications will be duly received, processed and stored through a device that integrates, controls and streamlines operations. The increase in operation security was considerable, because in addition to the audio recordings, events, emergencies and ID's registered in the server, the TXRoIP Dispatch Console offers a list of the last 100 recordings for a quick consultation by the traffic controllers, in case the message was not fully understood in the first contact. The modernization of the system decreased the corrective maintenance events, consequently generating savings due to the reduction of service downtime.
